Wild BC

Posted on December 31, 2022 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

We have been ravished with their Rose, and now we’r enchanted with the White blend.

This wine has aromatic notes of pear, apple, and hints of elderflower. It’s a little sweet on the nose, with a crisp finish.

The blend is 59% Pinot Blanc, 27% Pinot Gris and 14% Riesling.  No bubbles, so ’she’ didn’t catch on to the 3rd member of the blend.

This is one to revisit in the summer – on the deck .. in the heat … Bring out the appy platter.

Maybe next year the Goddess will include the Red Blend in a mystery case.

The scent of rain on dry earth

Posted on December 4, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

A perfect BC word.  Petrichor  describes the stone-like earthy smell associated with rain.

The estate vineyard that produces Petrichor wines is nestled in the Southern Okanagan Valley.  Just like the scent released into the air when raindrops meet the ground, Petricor’s Cabernet Merlot will delight your senses.

The Cabernet Merlot is structured and has strong tasting notes of black and red fruits. It pair well with anything carnivores love: beef, lamb, and cheeses.

Long Harvest with an excellent yield

Posted on August 28, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

The 2017 harvest, lasting 66 days, was one of extremes. The harvest started later than anticipated, with a cool, wet spring. However, a record-breaking dry spell followed in July and August, with temperatures well above seasonal norms. This warm, dry summer resulted in a crop of small, concentrated berries that should produce wines of exceptional depth and intensity. The harvest concluded on October 30, yielding a crop reminiscent of the incredible 2009 vintage.

All that effort from the Osoyoos (54%) and Oliver (46%) vineyards came a lovely medium Merlot that is quite fruit forward.  15 months in oak certainly contributes to the fullness.

Thick, local lamb chops, with lots of rosemary, made an ideal pairing.

Saintly? I don’t think so

Posted on February 20, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

Not us! (Well me in particular).

This is a very nice, crisp, and lively Rose.  It has a very nice lingering after finish.

We paired it with baked prawns and scallops, and of course, our usual couscous.  An orange salada round out the main course.

Remember this one for the summer, when you want to just sit out on the deck or patio and relax.

Bold Taste from Broad Horizons

Very well structured. A lovely wake-up call when you take your first taste.  It’s medium bodied and the flavours continuethrough a lovely finish.

Boneless lamb shoulder roast. Slow baked for over 2 hours, along with roasted Veggies. The wine brought out the best in everything.

The Nk’Mip band has built a great Driver Enthusiasts Experience too.  Area 27. Designed by Jacques Villeneuve.Go for a ride  https://area27.ca/circuit/

Wanna go wild?

2nd time we’ve had something from this vineyard.  It was much better than our recollections of the first offering.

Couldn’t resist doing a roast chicken with wild rice.

This Pinot Gris shows varietal character and sources from their Penticton and Summerland vineyards.

It fills your mouth with fruit forward flavours and finishes with a slight spicy hint.

Certainly makes it to the “will buy again” list

And then

Posted on December 28, 2020 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

First though on first sniff was grapefruit.  But that changed to apple at first quaff.

Clear and bright. Smooth on the palate with a nice touch of citrus.

Hilly, rolling hills of the Naramata Bench in the BC Okanagan. They try for the gentle approach without much intervention. Continuing their tradition of fruit forward.

Roasted Pork tenderloin with a sheet pan of veggies.
