Ground to a halt

Posted on October 23, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir 1 Comment

Dinner prep was stopped by the Grinder.

Our usual sip whist doing prep got extended because it really caught us off guard.

Lovely and dry, Pinotage is a cross between Cinsault and Pinot Noir.  This one, from the Coast Region of the Cape South Africa, is rich and intense.

So we carried on sipping and enjoying and then slowed down dinner (long slow stew the first night and a little left over for the chilli the next night) with extended sips over conversation.

Don’t let the silly label make you pass this one by.  It’s most worthy.

Fabulous Letter writing

And the 200+ illustrations add greatly to the story telling.

It’s got everything: Savvy. Witty. Loving. Bitchy.  And often, surprisingly moving.

This is a remarkable portrait of an era, of the man himself, and a world he lived in and enchanted.

Oh to have been a friend or acquaintance and get a letter from him!  What a delight it would have been.

Bernard Shaw. T.E. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, the Churchills, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, FDR ..They are all here.  Close encounters with close friends and with the great and the gifted.
