Approaching Perfection

Posted on May 12, 2022 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir 1 Comment

Consistently this is one of Argentina’s tastiest wines.
A very well balanced wine with lots of freshness and plenty of black fruit. It has a nice transition from the beginning to end.  Long finish.

Approaching the best Cab Franc we’ve ever had.

Go buy a bunch of this. Some to drink now.  Some for the next get together and some to hold for awhile.

Moms Husbands Toddlers

Posted on May 8, 2022 by Roger Harmston Posted in Humour Leave a comment

I’m just a mom, standing in my kid’s room, asking why there are fruit snacks on the ceiling.

My husband is with me every step of the way, in life, in love, in faith, in front of the kitchen drawer I need to get to.

My 4yo is in complete shock after she found out her uncle is my brother.

Me [coming home]: HOWS MY BABY?!?! Him: I’m good Me: Him: you meant the dog didn’t you?

No one wants to take medicine more than the healthy sibling of a sick kid.

If my wife doesn’t like her haircut, does her hairdresser even know the emotional mess I’m left to clean up.

I asked my 6yo’s friend when his birthday is and he said, “the day I was born”.

If your husband has never known the joy of a clean house, fresh folded laundry and homeade bread, you should introduce him to my husband. They’d have a lot in common.

6yo, getting dressed for school: hold on I just need to do one thing me: ok 6yo: *crawls back into bed and pulls blanket over his head* me:

Watching a crime scene investigator search for trace evidence is impressive but have you ever seen a kid examine a piece of fruit for spots?

Me: [asks where something is] My wife: I saw it where we keep our keys. Me: Why do you torture me?

I accidentally spilled Coke on my husband’s shoes, so now I’m waiting to see which one of my kids acts like a jerk first so I know who to blame it on.

if you open a snack in the middle of the woods, does it make a sound every toddler on the planet can hear?

All I have to do is throw the word “Garage“ into any sentence and I instantly have my husband’s attention.

I asked 5 to share her grapes with her brother and she said no so I asked why not and she said “I don’t know I haven’t figured that out yet, I’ll let you know when I do” and carried on eating the grapes.

[At a restaurant] Me: I’m getting the chicken Caesar salad. Husband: I think I’ll get the wings. Me: Those don’t come with fries. Husband: I know. Me: Husband: Me: But…whose fries am I going to eat?!

Get A Grip

Medium ruby in colour, medium bodied, but well balanced and soft. And then, after the 3rd or 4th sip Ichanged my mind and decided that it’s somewhat bold.

Very nice on it’s own, and we certainly enjoyed it with Spaghetti one night and beef kefta the other.

You’re not going to drop this bottle, with its nobbly finger grips on the neck of the bottle.

It is always a highly rated vineyard, so look for other varietals from them when you go to pick up a second bottle of this.

Joy of what we take for granted

All of these babies are wearing hearing aids and for the first time, are hearing what is being said to them. The last one is so

priceless. Is there anything better than pure joy?

How Separated are We?

Posted on May 4, 2022 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

When written, it was ahead of it’s time, giving us fair warning of what was to come.  Now, social media has almost made the book irrelevantfor businesses.  However, if you look at it from a personal perspective, it is still VERY relevant – IF you want your life out there!  Wherever “there”might be.

Are you trying to get a decent return on your investment in your life?  I prefer to remain clueless, but still curious.

For your business, a worthy read. For your life, I’d rather recommend The Tao of Zen by Ray Grigg.

Sci Fi or Necessity

I’ve read it multiple times, each time gain understanding of how things work.

Great reviews by others:
Apparently L. Sprague de Camp was a science fiction writer who also liked debunking pseudo-scientific claims in his non-fiction books, this book as I have since learned was one of his most popular. I enjoyed reading it very much, the history and detail is so rich and well written I feel it would be impossible to dislike. I would never have guessed it was written in 1963.
Every family has one. That loud-mouth who insists that because he doesn’t know how something was built, it had to be aliens. Or Atlantis. Or Superman. Anything other than pure human ingenuity.

This book is perfect for those people. (Or just to read when ignoring those people.) It describes how the ancient engineers built those amazing things without using a single scrap of alien technology. Even better, it shows how some of the traces of those things remain in our building today, such as the shape of banks and the fluting in columns.

Read it. And then tell that loud-mouth what *really* happened!

Identical Twins they are not

Attitude comes with altitude. The vines grow at between 200 and 500 metres altitude, where the winters are harsh and the summers extremely hot, with cooler nights. This alternation of temperatures allows the grapes to ripen slowly and gently, preserving all their aromas.

By looking at it, you wouldn’t know it was a Rose.  A lovely blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. You’ll easily remember this one because of its presentation in a satin finish bottle.

Beef barley and Lentil soup the first night and mac and cheese the second night.

The 2021 BC vintage from Quals Gate makes it easy.  If you can’t make up your mind what to serve, just go with a rosé. On the palate, this wine is light, fruity and satisfying from the approachable entry to the refreshing, crisp finish. It is made using a combination of Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes. After harvest, the grapes received four hours of skin contact for colour and flavour before being pressed off. Each varietal was fermented separately in stainless steel at cool temperatures before being expertly blended by our winemaking team.

Bring on the summer heat, so we can revisit both of these roses and enjoy them on the deck.
