Wakey Wakey

Posted on December 11, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

This one announces itself with a big fat bouquet and a resounding wake up call to your taste buds on first swirl. All your senses are alive by the second sip.

By the 3rd sip I wouldn’t say MY senses were balanced, but I’d decided it was delicious.

Syrah was first planted by the Phillips brothers in 1982. This vineyard is just a hop, a skip and a jump from the winery, and is one of the earliest plantings of Syrah in California. With Michael’s son Kevin continuing the Phillips grape growing tradition into the 6th generation, this Syrah vineyard was one of the first he tended to as Vineyard Manager of Michael David Winery.

Our rendition spent 16 months – 64% French oak (18% new), 36% American oak (11% new).

Thank You K for bringing it to lunch.

What are YOU going to do?

Posted on December 8, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

What OUR plan is:

Have done in past 6 months

Already reduced my probiotic yogurt snacks by 8 containers to 1 per week

One less vehicle trip per week

Have turned down the hot water tank 8 C

Going to do:

Continue with one less vehicle trip per week, making it two less vehicle trips per week

Grow two more herbs on the deck rather than purchase from the store

Purchase more environmentally friendly packed products

Turn down the hot water tank another 2 C

Encourage only sustainable projects

Let’s all doing at least two new things each this coming year to reduce climate change.

Forgotten they’d made a movie of it

A novel for humans.

Visually the movie was well done, but what I really enjoyed about the book was the ability to go back and leaf through some of the earlier experiences. I guess if you’d recorded the movie you could do that too.

It brings out all the emotions: laugh. cry. smile. ponder. and reminisce about your own pets of the past. It make one wonder where they been before they landed in our lives.

All dogs go to Heaven … unless they have unfinished business here on earth.

Others by the same author (A Dog’s Journey and 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter) are just as delightful.

The scent of rain on dry earth

Posted on December 4, 2021 by Roger Harmston Posted in Terroir Leave a comment

A perfect BC word.  Petrichor  describes the stone-like earthy smell associated with rain.

The estate vineyard that produces Petrichor wines is nestled in the Southern Okanagan Valley.  Just like the scent released into the air when raindrops meet the ground, Petricor’s Cabernet Merlot will delight your senses.

The Cabernet Merlot is structured and has strong tasting notes of black and red fruits. It pair well with anything carnivores love: beef, lamb, and cheeses.
